A campaign is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The project aims to send support to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.
“It occupies a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than live a life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”
The single was laid down in the wake of a major charity concert held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to the event running long.
The diverse array of musicians contributing to Lullaby includes a group of well-known figures from the scene. All took part in the September show, which managed to collect a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The track showcases a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the campaign have emphasized that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a figure explained. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Naturally, the more the merrier. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was noted for its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million won't make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is above all raising awareness for this issue and showing that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a digital service from mid-December.
