Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in DC.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in critical condition.
Memorials across the state have been held in their memory.
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the parents of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump addressed the press. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Attendees came together over the past few days at the high school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in the capital.
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators desired. She carried herself with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the head of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the Associated Press. “She was sweet, considerate and always ready to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.
The incident led the administration to suspend asylum processing and halt providing visas to owners of travel documents.
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi told the program that she aimed to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey informed the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
