The former Liverpool manager says rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.

The German coach, who departed from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback remains something that could happen. The 58-year-old, post a game-changing nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and providing guidance to Germany's league body.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

Liverpool won the league title under Arne Slot, though countless followers who adore the manager would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he told the podcast host: “I declared I will never coach a different club on English soil. So that means in case it's my former club...absolutely. In theory, it could happen.”

“Being 58, that means I could make the decision later on, I don’t know. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”

Conditions for a Comeback

When asked about which situations must arise to draw him back to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats weekly.

“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, yet sharing a meal alongside the squad talking freely, that’s nice. With many victories thus frequently great spirits in the building. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh ringing in my ears as an instance.”

Commending Arne Slot

He commended for his successor, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship in the previous season. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest post heavy investment, but he rubbished the notion of it representing a decline.

“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry over the club, they'll bounce back.”

Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward

The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash with his brother in July.

“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, his personality mattered. I can’t imagine the team environment absent his presence. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys as well. No one within the club would cite it as an excuse though it's a fact. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Handling this on a personal level is not easy. Overwhelming.”
