The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
