LeBron James's Historic Point-Scoring Run Concludes, But Los Angeles Claim Triumph Over Toronto.

LeBron James was aware his incredible run of putting up 10+ points was at risk. When it mattered most, though, he wasn't bothered.

The right decision meant distributing the ball – which is exactly what he did. Following that play, the legendary streak came to an end.

James's astounding streak of 1,297 consecutive NBA regular season games with 10+ points ended this past Thursday, when the NBA's all-time scoring leader had only eight total points during the Lakers' close victory over the Toronto Raptors. He made the game-winning assist, finding teammate Rui Hachimura for a three-pointer to win the game.

“Zero,” James stated in response regarding the conclusion of his run. “We won.”

An Unselfish Play Delivers Victory

James could have attempted to win the game – and preserved his record – on the final possession, yet he opted to dish the ball to Rui stationed in the corner. Hachimura sank it, and James raised his arms immediately.

“Just playing basketball the right way. Always make the right play,” James remarked. “That’s just been my philosophy. It's how I was taught the game. That's what I've done throughout my career.”

“LeBron is fully cognizant exactly how many points he's scored at all times,” commented the team's head coach JJ Redick. He made the play as he has done countless times.”

The Run's Final Moments

He returned to the floor for the final time with under five and a half minutes to go, the win along with the historic run up for grabs. At that stage, he had only six points on a 3-for-15 performance then.

He managed a basket at under two minutes remaining to level the contest then missed a 14-footer with 1:01 left which could have pushed him to ten points.

He didn’t take a subsequent shot – but could have. Austin Reaves found him in the waning seconds, but James opted to make the pass instead.

“The basketball gods, if you do it correctly, they tend to repay you,” Redick stated.

A Look Back at a Monumental Run

This incredible run started back in January 2007. It stood as the longest double-digit streak the league has ever seen: MJ previously held a streak of 866 consecutive games with 10+ points, Kareem recorded 787, and The Mailman was fourth on the list with 575.

Reaching double digits was usually a formality early in the fourth quarter began. During James’s streak, he had reached double figures entering the fourth 1,266 times coming into the contest.

But two of those unusual single-digit games after three periods took place just days before: He recorded nine entering the final quarter versus the Mavericks last week, and then had six before the fourth quarter versus the Suns earlier in the week.

He succeeded in preserve the record against the Suns. The very next outing, it concluded – yet he was celebrating anyway.
