The Gunners' boss has expressed confidence that his team can persist in handling with fitness issues after confirming that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for Havertz

The German forward has been sidelined since the summer after undergoing an operation on his knee. Hoped to come back earlier in December, Arteta revealed the player faced a hurdle when increasing his recovery and could not progress “to the next level.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a squad that is much more reliable and has greater depth,” commented Arteta.

Tactical Decisions for Midweek Fixture

This news creates a dilemma for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. Arteta must choose between sticking with Mikel Merino, who got a goal playing out of position last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly from a muscle injury off the bench. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains available after 11 months out.

Fitness Doubts Linger

Additional concerns involve centre-back William Saliba and winger Leandro Trossard, who were absent for the Chelsea match. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié will probably keep their places in the heart of the defence for the Premier League front-runners.

“We learned from the past that we have to use players in alternative spots, and they must be capable to adapt to new tasks if we aim to challenge at the highest level. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Addressing the complication highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered more insight. “His recovery was progressing. He failed to advance to the required step and now it appears like we have unlocked that.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to have him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. Honestly, he is a footballer who, for me, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his mentality, his attitude. I observe his frustration while sidelined.”
