The British designer Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement across their platforms."

Price's death comes less than a month after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London at the start of the 1960s to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in designing form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, now Queen Consort, which included a number of outfits for her American tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning half a century, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The industry says farewell to a genuine innovator whose influence on style and culture remains indelibly etched.
